Barrett and I have been hunting for four days and have only put up one bird. My Uncle lives up here and he says the birds numbers are the lowest he has ever seen. Barrett and his nine year old English Setter have hunted there ass off with no reward so far.

Wow, that's really tough grouse hunting. 4 days for 1 bird. I like the pic anyway. Dog still looks happy. Here's to hoping your guys' luck improves.
You have to be smarter than the dog to train it.

Stay with em stretch. Looks like y’all are in some beautiful woods. Thanks for putting the pic up. I really enjoy seeing some of what the others on this board get into with their dogs.

Beautiful country and photo, Stretch. Too bad about the bird numbers. Quite a bit of that going around this year it seems.

They had a hard winter and something the mosquitos are spreading have been hard them also is what the dnr are saying. We have three more days hopefully get into a couple. This is why they call it hunting.

Great photo of Barrett. Sounds like grouse hunting here in NW Oregon. Even the best years are pretty crappy.

Sounds like West Nile Virus is playing a role in the Grouse numbers.

From what i've read, West Nile is definitely harder on certain species. Grouse apparently is one of them. I know out here in CA the magpies we're decimated by WNV. They seem to be rebounding, but their number are still way down.
