What I know about the Fousek I learned from the secretary of the Wirhaired Pointing Griffon Club of America (WPGCA) and seeing some of the dogs that were imported for that purpose at tests. For reasons explained in another thread, the Fousek was chosen as the breed to outcross WPG to. There are nine different lines of Fousek. Breeding is generally kept within a specific line, and they do not breed between lines unless there is a need. The ninth line is specifically used for breeding to the other lines as needed. The Fousek is the most common versatile hunting dog in its native land. The dogs' coats are usually liver and white ticked and look like WPG or GWP/DD with hard coats. Some coats are flat lying while others are longer with some wave or curl to the hair. It would be difficult to differentiate between these breeds just by appearance.
Europeans were slow to recognize and test for hip dysplaysia, and some of the dogs imported for the WPGCA were mildly dysplastic. If you are interested in importing a Fousek, I would recommend that you have its hips checked first. Generally, these dogs performed better than WPGs in tests conducted by the WPGCA. Through extensive breeding with Fouseks, the dogs in the WPGCA had mostly Fousek blood after a number of years.
I would have responded earlier but I hadn't joined the forum when you opened this thread.
I've had several really good dogs, but none were perfect. Neither am I, so keep that in mind!
