Chicken Soup Submissions

Postby figgel » Sun Dec 29, 2013 4:41 pm

I am an avid food lover, cook and author. Ever since our family began living a more holistic lifestyle, I have researched the reasons behind why certain foods are used for certain ailments. During this process, I have gained a new appreciation for the tried and true: Chicken Soup. Nearly every culture in the world has some form of Chicken Soup or Chicken-Based Stew that they offer their loved ones to either heal the sick or to keep illnesses from occurring. It is the ultimate comfort food afforded by both the rich and the poor. These age old tried and true chicken soup recipes have never been collected has a whole from around the globe as a tribute to their success as family healing tools, bith emotionally and physically.

I am attempting to do JUST that in a new cookbook I am authoring. My goal is to collect Chicken Soup recipes (your grandmother's recipes, your GREAT grandmother's recipes, your grandpa's favorite stew recipes) and build a collection of chicken soups and stews from around the world with personal stories and pictures.

I'm reaching out to my fellow V-Dog community -- well, because it is one more group to reach out to AND as a group you tend to have down-home family values usually appreciating the traditions of family and food.

Please consider sending your recipe as well as send your story behind the recipe(s) or a favorite memory of having the soup. When it was shared in the home or why. I am looking for traditions specifically related to health and wellness as being the prime reason the soup was sometimes made in your home. We all know soups can warm the soul on a cold day--but if your family made a chicken-based soup or stew as a form of healing when you were sick--this is the recipe and story I would like you to share with me. You may also send a picture of yourself OR the relative to which the recipe belonged. Please, all LIVING relatives MUST give consent to printing the picture in the final product should I use your recipe in the final book. If the picture is of you, the submission of the picture and the recipe is consent for me to use it (with proper credit!) in my book.

If you have a family Chicken Soup or Stew recipe you would like considered for my cookbook, I have a form for you to fill out. PM me and I will email you with instructions and the form to complete.

I really appreciate you even reading this far. Keep cooking grandma's recipes! ...turns out it's good for your health! :)

CHICKEN SOUP...?
My Pop used to give all us kids a bowl of hot water....
then he used to take a chicken leg and dunk it in all our bowls...
saying during the process-
CHICKEN SOUP
CHICKEN SOUP
CHICKEN SOUP
CHICKEN SOUP
then it was back in the pot for the next meal.....YUMMMMMMMM

One of my favorite, easy chicken recipes is a southwest style chicken crockpot recipe. It could be considered a stew of some sorts if you break the chicken apart. Anyways, the recipe goes:

Place 2 to 3 chicken breast in a crockpot

Add:

1 can or corn
1 can diced tomatoes
1 can of black beans
2 cups of salsa
Salt and Pepper and any other seasoning you feel like adding.

Put the crockpot on low while you are at work for the day.
As soon as you get home, turn it on high for another hour or two.
Once it's done serve it over some rice or break the chicken breast up and serve it as a soup with some cheese and sour cream.

One of my favorite chicken recipes and super easy!

Not chicken soup / but all my wild game birds out of the dutch oven have gravy.
That gravy gets a couple cups of water , and becomes the next days soup.
