Rowdy, you made the right decision for Misty and yourself, gutwrenching as it must have been. The weight of having to make it... . Like Bruce, I wondered while the site was down how you had proceeded with this excruciating decision. I would say again that you've given yourself and Misty a better chance of continuing far into the future together. Wishing the two of you the best in going forward, regardless of how ever many legs there are between the two of you, as inseparable.

Tough but smart decision. She will adapt and be quite fine on 3 legs. And I'd fully expect her to be able to hunt in the future. Sure, maybe not chukar death marches but I think you'll be able to find her niche as a hunting dog out there.

ryan that's what I think. Perhaps some mild hun country. Quail draws. Grouse logging roads. Pheasant bottoms.
You have to be smarter than the dog to train it.

You made the right decision.
The only problem with a three-legged dog is if tries to go tripod on a point.

Finally got her home today. Really good to have Misty back. This was my first time using this vet and I really, really like them a lot and the care they gave Misty. She was in great hands and I will be using them as my vet from now on.

Sorry to hear that. Cold comfort but she'll recover quickly and be a very viable dog I think.

Ugh.. just seeing this. Sorry man. Glad you made the decision and I bet she'll be back hunting before you know it. The toughness and resilience in dogs is something humans can only aspire to.
