What a day. Long, hot, stressful. But this damn dog put it all together despite me.

I think I'll keep her

I just read your journey. I love it. I have a 6 month old Pudelpointer, your online journal here is inspirational. Congrats on your VC. I am new to all of this but I have seen enough to know that earning a VC doesn't just happen. I'm sure you'll enjoy those cool, crisp morning hunts this season more than anything else, but well done! and thank you for sharing your's and Lena's story.

Your face sure looks familiar. Did we meet at the ‘09 invitational?

Thanks everyone. She's just a real nice dog. I had seen her do every facet of the test in practice, but on the big day she just crushed it. The field had coveys of 12 birds in the open, wild flushes, and a bracemate that walked in on Lena's point.

The double mark had a fish jump just as she was going on retrieve #2. Lucky we have some basic handling as she ended up way off line.

You would have never known this was her 3rd ever test. As for myself, any average dude would have guessed this was my third ever test...I was not a great handler. Lena pulled me through.

And tomorrow morning we will rise up extra early, and kick off Minnesota duck season!

No sir. In 2009 I hadn't even heard of NAVHDA. Heck, I was even a 'hunter' yet. Missed out on some prime years.

Congratulations! It's awesome to see a dog overcome the ubplanned distractions and obstacles. Really helps prove the great dogs.

Some of you are hitting it hard already, and I love it.

Not much of a duck opener, but geese were friendly. Lena shared retrives with another dog...maybe invitational training did pay off.

One short walk through the woods had 6 grouse contacts. Lena continues to be the world's worst (ruffed) grouse dog. Zero points, but one that happened to flush down the trail. Oh well.

Already sat a few times for deer, a nicer one on camera, was hoping to finish that up so it didn't interfere with bird hunting!

Made goose pastrami for the first time. Hank Shaw's recipe. I'd recommend.

Awesome, congratulations.
She is a beautiful dog, looks a lot like my dog Gus, those yellow eyes and long beard. Forrest
