Plugging away at our steadiness training. Got a couple of corrections on birds 1-4 this morning. This is birds 5-6. Lots of work still ahead but we are making progress.

This morning. Been out of town hunting turkeys and had not worked her for 6 days so it speaks well for her understanding the fundamentals I think. Perfect training bird flying right at her and just over her head.

We have ditched the check cord.

Next step is adding a blank pistol which will be a big step up for her because she is very programmed that a shot means a retrieve. Will introduce that using thrown pigeons at a distance vs a pointed bird to make it easier on her, and use a check cord so I am not completely relying on the ecollar to stop her when she undoubtably moves.

Following the Perfection Kennel system.

1) You're a solid trainer AG. Both planning and execution.

2) You have a beautiful training area.

Thank You, Joe.

We have added the 209 pistol and moved to tip up cages vs launchers, which makes the bird a lot slower getting off the ground and more tempting for the dog to break. This morning was our 3rd day. She never moved on these two this morning. Making progress.

Beautiful AG. Tess is really maturing nicely. Training appears to be progressing pretty smoothly. I love to watch a steady dog stand and just turn its head as it watches a bird fly. That will sure help brace work fall into place with Spud next fall. I am predicting honoring on the retrieve will require a lot of focus on the part of the handler. She is going to be nice AG!

Have not wanted to be running dogs and shooting on the farm during the turkey season so shifted from our Steadiness training to Trained Retrieve.

She knows Hold and is opening her mouth and reaching slightly for the object when I command Fetch now. Going pretty well. Lots more to do ahead.
