We miss you guys

Postby Densa44 » Sat Aug 29, 2020 8:58 pm

Ducks and Geese, pheasants open here on Tuesday and for the first time ever there are no Americans. Too bad. We miss you guys, they will hardly be any hunters. For the first time in over 50 years I haven't even bought a licence yet.

It just isn't the same.

Try to look after your problems down there and "Y"all come back soon, yah hear".

I might have over sold this a bit. It snowed here to-day, it is what we old duck hunters call "a duck day". Some dogs won't wet a paw.

For those who keep track of this sort of thing, the geese are already "flocked up" but aren't moving yet. They have opened a season for Sandhill cranes, the locals call them buzzards. I've never seen them shot on purpose.

Sandhills are said to be very good eating. Heard them referred to as, fillet mignon of the sky... or something like that.

Densa, those Sandhills are fine table fare. Grill them medium rare. They eat like beef steak. Ribeye in the sky is a common moniker here in texas.

Sandhill’s look like a cool hunt. I imagine it would feel like shooting a pterodactyl out of the sky. We can’t hunt them in Oregon and Washington. Not sure why, I see a lot of them when out duck hunting. Seems like a limited season could be allowed, but I guess my opinion is very anecdotal.

There needs to be a secret border crossing. Known only to those who need to know.

I guess that I should keep this a secret, but there is about 5,000 miles of places that you can cross unnoticed. I personally have hunted geese in North Dakota, when I thought that I was hunting in Manitoba.

It is sort of gratifying that we can both enjoy such a peaceful relationship.
