Dog food container on hunting trips

Postby Mosby » Sat Aug 08, 2020 1:48 pm

I have been using a number of different containers and plastic bags for dog food that we have laying around. I am looking to get better organized and I want something that is mouse/critter proof for my dog food for extended hunting trips.

Avery and Muddriver sell food bags that hold 20lbs and larger. Gamma2 sells an airtight container in different sizes starting at 15 lbs. I see a lot of people seem to use the food bags but they also seem like they could tip over and might be easier for animals to chew through in a cabin or campsite.

What are you guys using to store dog food on extended hunting trips?

I use Tupper Ware type containers. Stackable, don't tip over.

The Gamma2 Vittle Vaults are excellent. Air tight and durable. And they come in a variety of sizes. The Bucket Collection comes in sizes from 8-25 lb capacity. If you need a little larger try the Outback Collection. They come in sizes 15 lb to 80 lb. I have the Outback 25.

I use an ammo can, good enough for my week long trips.

A few bully sticks in the accessory compartment on top.

This is probably the direction I will go. I have a small container at home that holds a few lbs worth of food for a weekend trip but I need something bigger for 7-10 hunts. Since I am getting 2 new pups, I will probably go with the 25lb container. It looks pretty square and not easy to tip over in the back of the truck too. Thanks.
