Chukar Hunting

Postby orhunter » Sun Feb 06, 2022 10:32 am

For those of you living in areas that don't have Chukars but you always wanted to hunt them, this video might change your mind. Ha ha.... It's very well done.

Early in the season I was in some of the area shown and I didn't see cover as it is in the video.

Good video. Makes me glad and sad all at the same time that Chukar season is over. Those are tough shots to make after chugging up a steep rocky slope. Harvesting a Chukar definitely feels like bigger accomplishment than most birds.

Eric posts some of the best footage I have seen. His dogs are excellent as well.

Chukars could easily be my favorite bird if I lived closer to where they live. I find them in terrain better matched to my age and abilities.

Kent: Yea, after a good rain they move up to the flats on top and don't need to torture one's self on the side hills. Some of the country in the video I'd never set foot on no matter what my age/ability was. Downright creepy. Have taken a couple hard falls in the past and managed to keep from getting hurt. Lucky I guess.

Going to take the dog out on Wednesday to where I've hunted a lot in the past to do a bird count. With the season being closed for a few days the birds should be undisturbed and in their natural habitat and not pushed down into the canyon. It'll be nice not carrying 8+ lb. shotgun and a vest loaded down with stuff. Hope to get some good pointing photos since my hands will be free.

Thanks for posting. Awesome video. Beautiful country. Looks like hunters without good legs and dogs without good feet need not apply.
