Dogs are mad at me

Postby RowdyGSP » Fri Apr 23, 2021 1:31 am

Went bird hunting without them. Public land. Spot and stalk. Don't have the patience to sit and call unless it's in a duck blind.

Cool.... Wonder what a dog would do when it tried to fetch one of those critters?

In the Fall Rowdy usually ends up tripping on the wings or tail when he steps on them. I shoot more turkeys in the Fall over dogs than in the spring without.

Pointed and retrieved up a creek bottom...you can only use dogs on turkey's in the fall in KS!

You never have to tell a dog what time to be home, give them the keys, and they never ask for money.

Bears are kinda on hold around here. A few being taken but the weather has turned crappy on the coast and that puts them back in their dens. NE still has snow blocking roads so access to the high country is very limited.

I haven’t checked out the turkey hunters but it’s probably pretty normal.

Snowed here Tuesday. 3 mornings in a row in the 20s. Supposed to be in the 80s tomorrow.

Had to carry them about a 1/2 mile. About as far as I want to carry them while carrying a shotgun without a sling. Bears up next. Made a bear camp shelter this weekend. You might have seen it on social media, Kent. Spot and stalk is my go to when without dogs. Today found a wolf killed cow and lots of wolf sign while taking the rifle and bear tag for a walk up by the Canadian border.

Talked to some ODFW people at the Jewel Wildlife Area yesterday and they asked If I’d seen any wolves as they’d been reported. They didn’t trust their source so wanted to know what I’d seen. I drive by there frequently but all I see are elk from the road and don’t hang around there other than to give the dog a pee break.

I did see it. Looked really cool. You live in an awesome part of the World. Keep us posted on your adventures.

It is not legal to take two gobblers in the same day in my home State but I have done it quite a few times in KS, most often with my bow due to it's silence and gobblers' passion for whipping up on their running buddies when they are down and flopping. Carrying two adult gobblers out will let a guy know he is doing something physical.

Legal here, but not very wise. I was sweating like I was dragging or packing out a deer or a couple beaver by the time I got back to the rig. The younger of the birds, the jake hung around enough after the shot for me to plug him then plug him again after the tom went down.
