Family hunt

Postby Willie T » Wed Dec 23, 2020 5:46 pm

My son came in from college for Christmas break. His uncle and I have been beating the ducks up pretty good and he was itching to give it a go. We all loaded up and got out early. The first pic is Cricket confined to quarters on his mo marsh with visions of waterfowl dancing in his head while the three of us put out the set.

A front was blowing through at first light and it was slow. It was good to be back in the marsh with my son.

A dense fog bank rolled in with the front. We were running traffic rather than on the X. We managed to scratch a few in the fog but it was slow. We needed visibility for the birds to find us.

At around 8:30 a steady NW wind kicked up. The fog blew out and visibility picked up. This is Cricket on his Momarsh with the surveillance system set on high when the fog blew out.

Once visibility picked up, birds started working our decoys and Cricket went to work

This one was good. This bird was a gimped and hit the water swimming. Cricket pursued it for a couple hundred yards. When he got there it went under. Cricket went under with it. When he popped up I thought he had it by the tail but it was a foot. The birds was doing the funky chicken all the way back. I don’t know that the picture quality is good enough to see but the look in Crickets eye is awesome.

Once the fog lifted it was fast paced. 18 birds delivered to hand. Even though he detests post hunt photos, Cricket may have had the best time of us all.
Nothing like hunting with family!

It takes a really good dog that will dive under for a diving crip. Good boy Cricket!
You have to be smarter than the dog to train it.
