I'm still kicking

I appreciate the inquiries on how the Wife and I are doing with Covid.

She is back to normal, I am lagging but better than I was for sure.

It has been 2.5 weeks. I ran a fever of 101 for a week but that passed over a week ago. Still have no smell and little taste, lungs are not 100% and I am tired alot. But I am improving. 4 people from our little country church congregation have been in the hospital and just about 100% sick. I have Friends in SD, ND and NE who have also had it in this timeframe. It is running wild and not something to be casually dismissed.

Hunted deer a few days this past week, looked at a whole lot of deer and pulled the trigger this morning. PTL we were able to drive a PU to the buck for loading.





Going to get Tess in the field tomorrow for a short hunt.

Tess and I have made short hunts the past two days locally. I am not back to normal yet but very grateful to be back in the field.

We hit a WMA in Iowa this morning which is never great due to a very low bird population. Tess got hung up on scent in a spot where some heavy grass/weed cover butted up to corn stubble and hay ground. She worked around and around. I eventually checked out mentally judging it to be a puppy hung up on scent and needing to move on.

I was wrong.

It was a public land rooster who absolutely did not want to expose himself in flight, running in tight circles as Tess doggedly pursued him. I was taken by surprise when the rooster flushed, looking both giant and beautiful with his long writhing tail behind him. My lingering Covid sympthoms had both my brain and body working slow.

The rooster fell at the shot but was not dead. Tess got on him immediately and brought him to bag.

Tess marks the 5th generation of GWP I have taken roosters with off of that WMA and I am grateful to have places where my puppies might find a bird or two.

Kent I can't agree with you enough on hunting/handling in silence. Those days where I don't have to whistle, beep or holler at Rowdy are some of my favorite. Just enjoying watching the dog work and hit cover/terrain.
