Anyone been hunting lately?

Postby RowdyGSP » Sun Nov 08, 2020 10:55 am

Slow day of duck hunting last weekend, but managed a pair of greenheads with Rowdy. Running traps this weekend, then next weekend will head south for chukar and huns. I know Harvey is out on the prairie chasing birds. How 'bout the rest of you?

I made 3 sits for whitetails week before last. Saw two big bucks, equipment failure saved the life of one ...

Tess came into heat and both the Wife and I came down with Covid, so here I sit. This Covid is no picnic.

Sorry to hear that. My buddy in MT got covid over a month and a half ago. He still can't taste anything and has hardly any energy.

AG, sorry to hear about the Covid. I hope your cases do not get severe. If you want, I can come get your dogs and take them hunting in KS this weekend...

Been too warm and too windy for me to hunt or fish. Just watering trees, praying for cold and snow, hoping no one else from work gets Covid as we are down 30% of our workers. Maint department down 75%, hoping I don't have to go fix anything in the middle of the night.
You never have to tell a dog what time to be home, give them the keys, and they never ask for money.

Looks like a good time. Rowdy appears to be fully committed! Cricket and I have been getting after it some. Quail is open here and we have got after them some. South zone of texas opened Saturday for ducks and I had a hunt scouted and planned with my brother in law. Unfortunately his wife tested positive for covid Tuesday and we postponed. Not to be deterred, my son came in from college and I was able to get him on a mature spot and stalk whitetail buck. I need to take more pics.

AG, bummer on the covid. I said a prayer for your wife and you.

Yeah he is SO committed that we have had to go back to leashing him up in the blind. Started breaking on shot again, which I don't totally mind, but he knows better.

I know you are keeping it in perspective. I think Rowdy is telling you he has been missing waterfowl hunting... looking at the picture makes me smile. I’m not much of one for trying to read a dog over the internet but Rowdy is gassed up and ready to go!

Gassed up describes him. He's got incredible prey drive and will do just about anything for a bird.

Harvey, sorry to hear about ND. You ought to hunt around BC, when you stop there.

I'm planning on getting out for stocked pheasant, but pup has to stay home. Had a pretty bad accident and dislocated her left hip day before last. I think the lab pup must of jumped on her with leg in bad spot. Reset now, but vet wants her legs slinged and limited movement for two weeks.

Attidog, sorry to hear about your pup and the dislocation. Any risk of issues later on down the road with a dislocation at a young age? Have fun chasing birds.

My brother-in-law and his wife are cleared of Covid. The old guys and Cricket are back in the coastal marsh. I took the time to get a few cell pics this morning! My photography skills are weak... First one is cricket on the Momarsh and me on my marsh stool. I’m a southpaw so Cricket works on the right.

It was a stellar morning. A steady and true SE wind picked up as the clouds rolled in and the birds worked our dekes well.
, culminating with quick limits and in your face action, and good enough shooting to make for simple dog work. We each scratched a limit. The bag between the two of us tallied 10 gadwall and two green wing teal. For me that is a banner morning as those are my two favorite ducks on the table.

It is unseasonably warm and we saw a pile of alligators in the dark on the way to the pothole we hunted. Once we got to the uber shallow water we hunted, we did not see anymore. They are a concern hunting down here before it gets cold. You can see it’s still shirt sleeve weather on the ride back to the ramp.
