Very nice. My heart would have been pounding for sure. Did you get him cooled down pretty quickly? My buddy shot one this time of year in MT and by the time he got it loaded in pickup and ice in the chest and into the processor, about 1hr and 15 minutes. 15 minutes was stopping by my house to show me what I missed out on by not going with him that morning, he lost about 25% of the shoulder meat to spoilage. Just curious how you made out.

The Bull came to some sparse cow mews on a string. Stopped and bugled at around 75 yards, stood looking in the cover where the call was coming from and then started walking fast again right towards the call. I was ranging him as he came. My setup was not great, with sparse cover, so I let him get past me. He stopped at 40 yards and I drew but his vitals were covered by a juniper. I held to the forward side of the juniper and when he started walking again I cut the arrow loose as his chest came into my 40 yard pin. The ViperTrick broadhead blew through him, the bull wheeled and ran over the contour in the open ridgetop above me. He bedded about 75 yards down the slope in the nearest cover he came to and died.

I have not eaten any of this bull yet as I am still working on 2018's bull, but I expect he will be good quality meat as all the prior ones have been.

Viper makes quite an assortment, which one were you using? A point that punches clear through an elk is a good one. They just made mechanicals legal in Oregon, dumb move in my opinion. Being an old fart, I never understood their purpose.

The Broadhead I use for Elk is the ViperTrick made by SlickTrick.

It is a 4 blade head, replaceable blades, the main two go to the tip for a cut to the tip max penetration design and the other two are bleeder blades. Just shy of 2 inches of cutting surface, extremely sharp (sharpest of anything I have tested), very sturdy, very accurate.
