Heck of a hunt. Good time had by all. Thanks for the photos.

Me'n Tater scheduled to hit the road Sunday but everything depends on the weather.

Coming from the west, how far east would a person need to go to find a mix of Sharpies and Chickens?

Weather is such a wild card wrecking ball for a traveling hunter. Just tore down my shotgun. I was setting it in front of the heater each evening after a day of driving sleet and snow, hung wet gear in every corner of the motel room, used Pat's blow dryer to dry out the dog crate pads. New 10 ply continentals with a more aggressive tread on the truck and glad I had them.

I have encountered a mix of Chickens and Sharptails in the Western thirds of NE and SD this season. I am not aware any other state has them both and open seasons on both.

I'll be in and around Mott ND, have never seen Chickens there and Sharpies aren't common. If one gets up too close to pass I'll take it but to target them isn't on the menu. Your hybrid is cool. Taxidermist?

Putting studs on back of the truck before leaving, be great if I didn't need them. Have some slabs of concrete to toss in the bed. If I can get to Mott easily I'll be in good shape. Concerned more about getting there than coming home. Maybe I won't need to be the cook for Thanksgiving this year.

Cleaned the guns I'm taking a couple weeks ago so all set. Took the back seat out of the truck so I can stack everything in the cab and not the bed.

Haven't hunted sustained cold weather before and hope I've enough of the right gear. Pretty sure I'll be good down to +10 but wondering about dog??? My Griff was fine but she had a little more coat. Tater's hair has been growing but.... Have a skid plate I can put on her.

That looks like a hell of a good time AG. Seasoned dog in its prime. Young dog with a bright future. Bird hunting the open spaces on the prairie. Little bit of weather to go with it. I’m especially jealous of all of y'all with the young dogs this season.
Nirvana for a bird hunter.

The dog will be fine as long as it is moving. I’ve hunted tight coated dogs in wind and 0 degree Fahrenheit and they love it. Protect the feet if the snow crusts over. Same goes for the hunter. I like to be a little cold when I leave the truck so I don’t sweat after I get warmed up moving. Layer up and get after it.

Top Tier quality AG. What a trip.

Glad I got my CRP walks in when I did. I think I'll be in cattails this weekend.

Same here. I have to be cold when I leave the truck or I will be sweating shortly after. Wearing a mesh ball cap with a stocking cap over the top, or not, allows me to warm up (Stocking cap on) or cool down (stocking cap off) and avoid completely overheating as I go. Churning through snowed in cattails is sure to heat me up.
