CZ Upland Ultralight

So no hunting now and totally focused on training, about the time I get an itch for a new shotgun for next year.. Anyone have any experience with the CZ Upland Ultralight? I am drawn to it for a couple reasons; lightweight, fair price, extractors vs ejectors, and its not too dolled up and pretty. (Grouse woods are rough on shotguns). Anyone with any knowledge on these? Or CZ customer service in general?? I've heard Huglu used to have issues with things like firing pins but it has been better as of late..

I have a cz bobwhite. I looked at the ultra light but I wanted it in 20 gauge not 12. I had to send mine back because the shear pins were too short and it went off when you closed the action. If in the hands of an unsafe gun handler it could have killed someone. I was not impressed by this, but I also realize it is not a high end shotgun. I was very satisfied with their customer service when I sent it back. They had it back to me in less than a month and I've had no problems since. It's my go to upland gun. I like the light weight and the way it handles. If you like the way the ultralight handles I would think it's good for the money. I know a guy who has one and loves it. He has not had any problems with it.

I considered a CZ on my last purchase, after reading Randy Wakemans reviews of a number of CZ's it seems that heavy triggers (heavier than the actual gun in many cases) are quite common. Steered me elsewhere.

I think most the complaints are toward their shotguns, the rest of the product line has many satisfied customers. I have a CZ Model 527 in .22 Hornet. Knock on wood but it is a sweet little rifle.

I have 3 CZ's. 2 ringnecks, 28 , 20 ga. and a model 550 243 cal. The 243 is a very accurate rifle . the adjustable , set trigger is awesome. The 2 pipes fit me like a glove. My first 20 double, double fired early on and I sent it back to CZ. I called the company gunsmith and asked that mine be fixed since it had a little figuiration in the wood. The gunsmith said, we are going to send you a new one. Gunsmith said if you wait a couple of weeks we'll have a new shipment in and I'll hand select you one. Two weeks went by and my new 20 arrived . The wood was kick azz nice. I mean Dinomite . The 20 is my go to gun with 1,000's of rounds shot . not a lick of problems . I own about 15 shotguns I could be shooting ranging from Browning, SKB, Winchester , etc. I have to give CZ a A.

I should add too that I have a cz rifle and haven't had any problems with it. In fact it's one of my favorites. It was a 30-06 but I rebarreled to a 338-06AI. The trigger is really crisp and light even when not "setting" it. It has a pacnor barrel on it now, but action is good and it has a nice balance.
Even with a good customer service experience with them I would consider other guns. The cz is in a great price range...so it's worth considering, but there are so many worth considering. Hmmm...I think I need another shotgun

Bullfrog: I've got a .338-'06AI built on a Rem 721 action, custom NW Precision Barrels pipe. Don't think NWPB is in business any longer. Dunno why, they made excellent barrels. Mine is a tack driver.

Right now I'm putting together two other rifles on Remington 722 actions, both with PacNor barrels. One in .250 Sav. the other in .257 Roberts. The Roberts is pretty much done but with my bum hand, haven't been able to install the butt pad. The gunsmith messed up the .250 barrel and cut the throat too long so waiting for a replacement barrel. And waiting, and waiting, and waiting.......

FWIW CZ shotguns are not made in the same plant as their rifles and rimfires.

The rifles are made in Czech Republic and are typically very nice for the buck with plenty of accuracy.

The shotguns are made in Turkey and like most of the Turkish imports suffer from cheap labor and shoddy assembly.

I personally would steer clear.

I think after doing a little more research I may try and look elsewhere.. I want to stay under $1000 and it looks like for that I should be able to come across a used Weatherby Orion, or maybe get lucky and find a red label or citori

Look at SKB... They made W'by for a while w/ a modified Greener x-bolt.

My only complaint is my 20ga, 28"bbl weighs close to 7#.

But, it's a solid built weapon comparable to the "B" guns.

I bought a CZ Upland Ultralight, 26" 12ga in 2016. It started double-firing the next year. I finally sent it in for repair last year. They said they adjusted it and sent it back to me. It started doubling again this year. I have just submitted a warranty request and have asked that the gun be replaced.

I wear a gopro and have several videos of the gun double-firing. Both shells go off simultaneously; there is no delay. Here are pics showing both barrels going off at once as I try to shoot at a prairie chicken yesterday. Note that you can see gas coming out of the breech.

This gun hasn't had many shells run through it. It gets used for hunting. I haven't been out after clay pigeons much with it. Since I've read similar reports elsewhere, my perspective is that these guns are of poor quality. I'll report back what happens with the warranty request.
