Small terrier recommendation

just like everyone told me... the Border Terrier instinct has woken.
Today while hubby was out walking the herd... (3 GWPs' and the BT) they got a ground hog. Two of the GWP's (a 12 yr old and a 2 yrs old) were working it and the BT got right into the middle of the fight.

The old GWP bitch got a nasty hole in her leg, but the two youngsters finished it off. Hubby was amazed at the tenacity of the BT bitch in the battle. First time she has shown her talents in this area.

Guess one just has to wait till the time is right. Oh my..... I may be sorry.

I grew up with Borders. My folks imported dogs from England in the 1960's and we hunted with them as well. I have shot pheasant and rabbit that have been driven by BT. They are gamers but you had best get to your shot game before they do!!!

I had a fox terrier and a toy fox and they were great dogs. Although they did shed a little it was not to bad.

My family has Jagdterriers since more than 40 years and any time I heard from another terrier breed I gave it a try to compare:!: Russels,patterdales my first dog over 40 years ago was a wirehair Dachshunds and my uncle bred these bastards over 30 years I don't like them For my hunting needs nothing could match the Jagdterrier Had to shoot my best one this morning since she suffered from ratpoison since 3 weeks now and seemed to be recovered but had some brain damage was disoriented and walked like a drunken person Too bad Now I have 2 females left for ground work (fox) and together with my Kopov hound as a tag team on wild boar If hunting comes first in your consideration and you are looking for a smaller version of the DD Deutscher Jagdterrier is the match

Ive yet to see a JT or working dachshund here. They are pretty rare, except the show line dachs.
Of those 2, is there one that is more stable in terms of being a family member and good around well behaved kids? I cant afford a biter or nasty temperement.
Im also considering a beagle, basically its between the 3 breeds.
How do the Wire dachs and JT do at tracking hares for the gun?

Both breeds have had a bad reputation in the past as being aggressive and bite people I've seen quite a few dachs from my uncles breeding who had that bad habit and also knew a few weired DJT's but I have never had a problem with it and breeders have done their share to solve it But must say a Jagd is not necessary a dog for everybody
Both breeds will track a hare to the gun dachs maybe even better
Todays dogs from both breeds will have an outgoing temperament,but hunting wise Jagdterriers a 100% bred for the job Dachs will be 5% the rest is show and pet

I have several types of terriers and I would say by they types of hunting you do and how often you plan to hunt a Feist of any kind would be GREAT for you.. They make great pets and hunting partners good watch dogs and are smaller and easy to keep.. If I was getting a new one it would be from Jack Buckly or Mike Croucher....
