This is a 14 generation pup that is 5/HC and 3/8 East German. I really regret never having the opportunity to raise this cross because I believe it is probably one of the beat I have done. I have the sire which is 3/4 HC and would be more than a handfull for most people. The 1/2 x 1/2 crosses were soft enough for most to work. This cross, I think, is the ideal not being to soft nor to hard.

I know these pictures are pretty dull compared to pups in the versatile world, but, when you consider that airedales are not classified as a sporting breed, hunting or otherwise. I get pretty excited seinng them perform even at this level.

I didn't realize they are not classified as sporting or hunting. Doesn't make sense when they are considered king of the terriers! What are they classified as?

They are simply in the terrier class. Because of that they have never been eligible to compete in anything until recently. Folks that wanted to compete bought breeds that were eligible to compete.

Thought you might enjoy this grainy old photo of my 1st cousin and I with his Airedale Sandy. She was with us, as always, when we checked traps that morning and I caught that prize muskrat. It was still alive when we arrived and Sandy immediately dove into the river and promptly dispatched it. Great kids dog, went everywhere we went, in all seasons. Campouts, fishing, hunting, exploring ... Good tree dog and we took a lot of squirrels, coon and possums with her. She would retrieve birds as well. Gritty, no backup in Sandy.

Thanks for the pic AG. Back in the day they were really pretty popular. As far as the back up, well, they are terriers. LOL
