Lara v.d. Zeiler Klinge

Postby Jawn » Sun Jul 27, 2014 12:55 pm

Well Wolfgang.... it took five years... but I finally got Lara v.d. Zeiler Klinge here in Texas. I must say.... that she is dog aggressive. Much more so than any jagd I own from Zdeno's Aluminium line. That said... she is a joy to hunt. I had her in the field two hours after getting off the plane and she sure impressed me. Very obedient, and the work you put into her sure shined through.... she is a nice dog that is a joy to hunt behind. She hadn't been hunted since January of 2013.... and for all intents and purposes you couldn't tell it.

Hey shawn,what a story
That's quite a journey for Lara! Hope she found a final destination now to stay for the rest of her life!
beside the dog agression issues (which can be controlled at least during the tests or in hunts with not too many strange dogs) she was a great dog and I had tears in my eyes and cried like a kid when I gave her to Carmen and her husband. Now I was offered to trade one of my Kopov pups for either a male or female pup out of her and the male Aluminium (Zep??) you allowed to breed her to.
I'm not sure if I will make the deal, due to the many bad experiences I made with dog agression, cause I need dogs for my business whicht at least tolerate the other mutts around!
But on the other hand,I have finished my judge apprentice ship for "Bau"(below ground) in DJT-Club and Schweiß (bloodtrailing) in DK-Club and since I don't own a DJT since I lost my Moby Aluminium son Cassio to badger I think I should at least own one DJT cause I have already lots of invitations to judge and I think you should at least own one dog of the breed you judge!?
I don't know??? I have ordered a Teckel pup now out of the best working lines in my area which I'm planning on training, and using for bloodtrailing and what I have seen in the DJT world the last couple of years was nothing that impressed me or caused any desire to own one again!Almost everything is a far cry to what I used to have the last 40 years! One of the few exceptions to this rule is a male who is a halfbrother to the female Afra vom Wonnegau I had! If I would decide to make the trade for the Lara female pup and get her through ZP I could make a breeding with this Wonnegau male and would be back on top with the type of dog I like!??? But I'm approaching 62 and might already be to old for a restart!? I don't know????
Anyway its good to hear from you and get the info that you own Lara now and hopefully give her a home until she 'll walk the walk to Wallhalla
I completely lost track of the situation of the DJT in the US since I locked out from the Wilsons board and really didn't have the feeling to miss anything, but sometimes I'm still curious :)
Was good to hear from you and get the info about Lara!
Good luck with your terriers and hunt safe

The situation in the US has improved to the degree that a few good dogs have been imported.... but it's mostly the same. The vast majority are junk, and it will probably stay that way. Congratulations on your becoming a judge! I guess I agree... you should probably have at least one DJT. But dog aggression is a pain.... and there is no denying that that the dogs down from Lok Aluminium display dog aggressive traits, and ZEP x LARA is an inbreeding on him. As for Lara.... she will stay in our group until she passes from this world. I was very impressed with her level of obedience right off of the plane. I tip my hat to you and the job you did with her. If you were closer I would be after a couple of your Kopov pups... I've always wanted to hunt that breed. :) I haven't spoken to Joe in years..... we didn't part ways on good terms I'm afraid.

Thanks for the kind words and compliments!
I also do believe, that it will at least take some time to built up a solid and reliable foundation for future execellent prospects in this breed, cause there will always be folks who water down the quality of good imports with local dogs which either just don't match with the imports or don't have the quality and necessary performance to make progress.
The Aluminium dogs would be my first choice if there wouldn't be the problem with dogagression.lara and my male Cassio who was a direct son from Mobi Aluminium were both a pleasure to train and were what is very important for me calm in the kennel and not the yappy bastards who get you in trouble with close neighbors, but both were at a certain age impossible to hunt together with strange dogs. Both ofem pissed off a bunch of whealthy clients due to that bad habbit.
About judging, the DJT-Club insisted of a continuing uninterrupted 3 year membership, before they let me apprentice and even my very good friend and former president of DJT club Hans Schindl couldn't get the rocks out of my way on becoming a certified judge for DJT and other earthdogbreeds and so I had to wait 3 years until I could start my apprenticeship.
Couple of years back I would have said kiss my butt and leave'm alone, same what I did for years with JGHV were I always denied when I was asked to apprentice!
But at a certain point it sucks so much when you train, handle and test dogs every year and get judged by all these one dog wonders who have problems to train a male dog to lift his leg and piss on the corner and if you tell'em that they have no clue about what they are talking and they respond "I'm a certified VR and you?"
That caused for me that I had enough of it and decided to become VR!
After I was certifeid JGHV VR I wanted to continue for VSWP and another a..hole told me aah you just finished VR now wait a bit until you continue and I had to deal with the same problem as with DJT-club
This time I joined DK-club and had again to wait 3 years... But now finally everything is wrapped up in dry towels and I'm certified for every event that might be of any interest for me 8).
About the Kopovs I think you would like them for boarhunting, but they are specialists not versatile like DJT or german V_dogs,you can only use them for bloodtrailing or boarhunting (or in your country maybe for treeing game ,cats, bears ,coon and such.
Is the Wilson Jagterrierboard (jagineb) still active and going strong or is it shut down?Sometimes I'm really curious to hear more about the DJT in NA.
Take care and enjoy your sport and hunting

You touched on something in your description of Cassio and Lara. We call it an "off switch" and it's a big part of what we like about the line. We have been experimenting with various ways of over coming the dog aggression issues inherent in the line and have found that early socialization and consistency help them allot. But to the point.... they ARE great in the kennel and around the house. It's something I like allot about them. Lara is a joy to have around. Joe's board is up and running.... but it's really slow from what I hear, and most of the people that frequent it are instant experts on everything. They get a jagd.... and with the internet at their disposal would have no problem telling Dr. Lackner (God rest his soul) how much smarter they are than he ever was. I'd suggest facebook Wolfgang..... you get a better sense of what is here and why. Create an account if you don't already have one and I will add you to some working jagdterrier groups. It's good to hear from you..... and I would love to hear more about your Kopov.

I would caution the bird/duck hunter from thinking that the DJT is a casual hunting dog. Yes...I have seen many in Germany that are wonderful family dogs outside in the Hof (farmyard). But once they are in sight of game, there is a seriousness and fearlessness that most US hunters (save serious hound men) are not accustomed to.
I would advise folks to spend some time with others who know and work these dogs. Little terriers can be very serious "beasties". It is also advisable to have a strong back and be ready to shovel...although I don't think of the DJT as an earth dog.

like most 8) Not much different with other german breeds and this is not only a problem in foreign countries :!: Same problem here people who have had less than a handful of dogs of a certain breed or hunting dogs all together seem to be all pros at least after a couple of drinks :D
And owning a dog or even a bunch doesn't make you an expert before you have serious experience in doing all the versatile tasks and hunting with those dogs.
I can tell you it really sucks to judge some of these experts and there dogs and it sucks way more TO BE judged from them, but the real worst case is to hunt with them and there dogs on various game in various types of hunting and listen the entire time to them and their brawling how good their dogs are while you can see with your own eyes what kind of dogs they have and what their training is all about
I'm always pissed when a leaseholder hires a second pack of boar dogs or invites guys with their couchpotatoes to givem a chance to spend a day in the forest and i have to fool around with them the entire day and listen to the bull$#*! they talk while watching the display of their location systems and telling everybody who really doesn't want to hear and do not listens what old yeller is just doin
But this is the new modern time world with internet and PC.Everybody can google and watch on youtube what makes a good hunting dog and how serious training will be done and how a dog perfroms after the newbee at been going through all this with his 4 legged hero.
