The Cruel Cost of Extreme Dog Breeding
By Michele C. Hollow on Apr 7, 2014

Take a look at an old photo of the iconic German Shepherd, Rin Tin Tin, who died in 1932. Now look at a photo of another of the breed, a German shepherd show dog of today. Notice the difference?

The second photo shows a German Shepherd with a slopping back and legs splayed apart. Some people call today’s German shepherds “half-frog dogs” because of the position of their legs...

Love the comment section. There are some posters that really chug the AKC kool-aid.

The old school Basset hound really looks like a dog that can hunt compared to the ones you see now. The difference in appearance is shocking. That is sad to see.

The AKC has ruined the German shepherd and many others. I am a police K9 handler and all our dogs come from over sees or breeding of imported dogs. The AKC had breed horrible health problems and hip issues. The majority of the German shepherds in America have no workable temperaments and no drive. It is aful and something should be done about it. This is the reason that when I was looking for a hunting partner I went with the pudelpointer. No connection to AKC and they breed for drive and workability not looks(I know they are trying to get a more consistent look now). A good looking dog is nice but everything. My German shepherd partner has no papers, only one testicle, and a unbelievable drive. He has saved my life and is willing to work at any moment. Ill take that any day over a piece of paper that say my dog is an AKC dog. Just my two cents
