Bland Diet

Postby orhunter » Fri Sep 02, 2022 7:35 pm

How many of you do this occasionally? Notice any difference in the dog?

Just curious. Whenever dog has weird symptoms, squirts, blood, whatever.

Kinda think we should consider bland upon occasion. Y'all...???

Kiddo today just left Vet office with no actual diagnosis other than gastric distress. Going on rice/meat meals for a couple of days.

Don't do it on a regular basis, but do if things get bad. Fortunately, our vet gives us an open prescription for carafate and metronizole allowing us to medicate as soon as any looseness is seen and can keep it from advancing. If you are having "regular recurring" bouts consider asking your vet about this approach.

She's been on Metronizole. This has be recurring over the past three weeks. Blood in the stool a couple of times also. I gave her Fenbendazole too. Dog isn't here with me now, she's with my wife at our other house so kind of limited in what I can do. Going to research a couple things then get back to this.

Fecal exam was done and Giardia was ruled out. They may or may not have checked for Neorickettsia Helminthoeca. I've treated that quite a few times with Tetracycline. Don't know if Metronizole is an effective treatment?

I have never changed the diet without some symptom suggesting I needed to. I have used metronizole with good results.
