Back in Oregon...chasing birds

Postby RowdyGSP » Sun Dec 23, 2018 1:49 pm

Rowdy and I made the drive from Idaho back to Oregon on Friday morning, to hunt a couple days and visit friends and family. Met my dad at a spot for huns Friday afternoon and then Saturday morning. On Friday afternoon we got started hunting around noon. 21 dog miles and 3 hours later, we got back to the trucks, with the dogs having pointed 3 coveys of huns. My dad ended up with 2 huns and I only shot at 1 covey and whiffed the covey. I was really happy with the dog work I got out of Rowdy. He covered a ton of country. While he does do waterfowl pretty well, this dog was built to run in the rolling hills in pursuit of huns and chukar.

So yesterday my dad and I decided to split up. He hunted the same area he and I did on Friday, while I decided to try a different spot. Again, Rowdy was rolling across the hills, saddles and draws. As he has gotten older and more experienced, I would say he has started hunting a lot smarter. I didn't see any objectives that he didn't hit. And the result was him pointing 9 coveys of huns and 1 covey of chukar in 27 dog miles on the Garmin. I was fortunate enough to shoot 5 huns over him, to reward his efforts.

Beautiful Hun country. Glad it was productive. Nice to be able to put some miles on the dog, bet Rowdy loved it.

Great pics Rowdy. Getting to hunt with family (at least for me) is about as good as it gets. You and Rowdy are lighting it up!
