AKC Gun Dog National Championship- Ames

Postby dualgwp » Sat Mar 10, 2012 8:21 am

The second series starts bright and early this morning. After watching 122 dogs work, the following dogs were called back for the second series.
HANK, Britt (handler)SORENSON
BET GSP KING
LUCKY GSP WEST
DIXON GSP FOUNTAIN
BANNER Britt LORENSON
BITTY GSP Dohse
GIGI GSP TRACY
BELLA Pointer DIXON
LADY GSP DOHSE
BANDIT Britt Tracy
MASON GSP DOHSE
and my boy.....LOUIE GWP WEST

It will all be over this afternoon! This was a great event, run on some very special grounds. The history of the place was almost overwhelming! The Bird Dog Museum is somewhere everyone interested in great dogs should see one day. The locals were wonderful, everyone stopped and thanked us for being there. We had some of the great AF handlers come out to ride and have dinner with us.....and Nick Thompson scouted my dog!

The report I got was the GWP was on track to win it with a tremendous first 30 minutes but started to gas after that. They said he would have won it no problem up to the half way point. Tough break but you have a great dog just to get there let alone be in the top 4.

Alas, it was not to be! But to get into the final 12 was pretty awesome. Louies 1st hour run was great, but I think the sitting around the grounds for 2 wks took it's toll. He ran outa gas.

The winner was a pointer run by Greg Dixon- Bella, 2nd a GSP, Lady run by Ray Dohse, 3rd GSP, Dixon run by jaime Fountain and 4th was a Brit whose name escapes me.

All in all it was a well put on event with tough competition on some very special grounds.

Congratulations! Getting into the top 12 in a one-hour, all-breed national championship is awesome! Did I see that there were 132 starters?

Didn't Louie take runner-up in this event last year?

I thought the GWP took fourth but instead it was the Brit. Still a brag dog for sure. Congrats!

Louie was 2nd at the Championship in Ft Robinson Nebraska in 2010- there were over 100 dogs in that one.
