Postby CZfan107 » Tue Aug 14, 2018 12:34 pm

Just put my Preorder in for a Garmin PRO 550 PLUS. Will be getting beginning of September. Looks Like it's just with i was looking for a Training collar first then a tracker GPS. Little pricey but simple to use.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Sa2Gz0Spfv4

They're getting closer. I still like my GPS to find my way out.

If you have the Alpha but want better control on the e-collar (as with the 550 Pro), just get the controller. They use the same TT-15 series collars and you can have both the Alpha and the 550 Pro Plus running on the same collar.

Thought of as an Alpha system with a new controller that is laid out and acts like the Pro 550 seems pretty accurate.

And no, neither the old 550 Pro controller nor collar will work with the 550 Pro Plus.

Gundog Supply's Steve Snell's rundown on the Plus...

Can buy the Astro 430 Receiver later for maps and use the 550 Plus for corrections if i need! I will try the 550 plus for a while don't think i need all the bells with the Alpha .

I've always run combinations: TT 100pro plus the Astro. My feeling is, once the dog's are trained, I can go to the Alpha since it's VERY RARE I ever have to stimulate them. Otherwise, the Alpha is too damned complicated to use as a training collar.

I feel the same way...Anytime I'm training the GPS collar is probably useless and if there its only as an absolute backup.
Rarely would I want to stim a dog that I couldn't see unless he was apparently chasing a deer or something.
