I have two vizslas, Harley and Roy, ages: 2 and 4. They are the best hunting dogs that I have shot over. Tier proximity during the hunt is what sets them apart from the other breeds that I have hunted with. They are great for pointing and retrieving ruffed grouse, pheasant, duck, and woodcock. - Justin Novatney, New Brighton Minnesota
We have one Vizsla, He is the best dog I've ever had. A good all round dog who still likes to sit in your lap at 57lbs. What a big baby! Got to love em. - Sharon B.
HI, I own a 2 yr. old Vizsla named Hunter. She is the best dog anyone can own. She is sweet, loyale and a big baby. When she is out in the park, those robins, finches or cackels are the only thing in mind. Hunter is so fixated on birds it's hard to prye her away. Vizslas make exellent Hunter's. - Karlo Gombar
Get detailed information about this VERY ACTIVE breed. Education is the best way to determine if a Vizsla is the right breed for you. Only buy from a reputable breeder.

Our first Vizsla was purchased at a local pet store because my husband had always wanted one to go with his 3 year old Weimaraner and we felt sorry seeing her and her brother in this small cage for 5 weeks. It was 6 months to house break her and the same to stop her from eatting her waste from the lack of food given at the pet store. When she was five her thyroid went bad and it seemed just when the medicine had made her get her weight and coat back her kidneys shut down at seven. We were devistated. We were watching our old Weim thinking she wouldn't be with us long and lost the young dog.

We now have a three year old Vizsla who has worked very hard for me to get her AKC Championship title as my first show dog and she has also gotten her AKC Junior Hunter title with me as her handler. She also has her International Championship. She is the best dog in the world you could ever have. She will hunt endlessly for you if you are walking with her or if she is just on her own hunt while we are horseback riding.

Vizsla's are called the versitle dog as they have endless energy, but can also become a very calm couch potatoe next to you. They have the most titles earned by a breed (five) and were the first breed to have three titles. At age 18months my "Stormy" was loyal to me to remain by my bedside while I recovered from a broken bone in my back. She would only leave me long enough to go to the bathroom outside and return to my side.

Stormy is one of three girls in our house now and soon we will have four, (one of her babies) we also have a two year old very lovey Weimaraner (Star) and a one year old Vizsla (Rosey). The house can be a bit hecktick first thing when we return home and everyone is let out of the kennel to go outside and take care of business, however when they return inside after a breif wrestling match they all settle next to us on our 144" couch we got so there was enough room for all of us.

Vizsla's have lots of energy and can make great hunting dogs but unlike some breeds the energy is controllable and they are wonderfull family pets as well. They are willing to do all they can to learn and please more then most breeds also. They are soft for correction and can be destroyed if they are handled too agressively.

Because we have both the Weimaraner and Vizsla's everyone asks which is the better dog, well they are all our little girls and have their own place in our life, however it is a matter of your personallity that can make either the right pet for you. If you can be a firm and consistant parent you might be able to handle either, it just takes more to be the dominate person over a Weimaraner personality the that of a willing Vizsla.

Our new Vizsla member to our household was born 12-23-04 and whichever one we keep will have its place on the couch also. Both breeds, Vizsla's and Weimaraner's are great hunters and family members and keeping them in the house is best for the bonding together with you and the other members of the household and it won't hurt the nose that can find anything in the grass or cornfields.
Sincerely,
Rhonda Grimm
