Owner Input: Anyone who has ever owned, trained, and hunted Llewellin's will attest to the fact that they are the supreme gun dog. Having grown up with Llewellin's and having hunted with every breed out there, I have yet to encounter a breed which approaches the Llewellin for efficiency in the field and for overall performance. I have killed every type of bird in every sort of environment over Llewellin setters and my dogs have always outperformed every other dog in the field. - J.H. I currently hunt two and will have a third this spring. In the case of the first, now 10 years old and hunting just fine, he put in the game bag 55 roosters and an uncounted number of quail his first season. He points with a long stand off, backed, tracked, relocated and retrieved his first season though only my training. In the case of the second, 2003-2004 his first season, we have a photo history of that season posted at this link http://www.ks-mo-hunt.org/llewellin.htm Overall the Llewellin Setter has put an end to my searching for the best bird dog for me. After 30 years of various breeds I have settled on them as what meets my hunting and general companion dog requirements. Good Hunting, John Wenzel | |
